Kingdom Mindset 103...Surrender
Welcome to this month’s post of Kingdom Mindset! Cultivating this mindset requires three things: (1) understanding what Kingdom is through the eyes of Jesus, (2) intentionally relating to it, and (3) functioning in that mindset.
Jesus said to his followers, “If you truly desire to be my disciple, you must disown your life completely, embrace my ‘cross’ as your own, and surrender to my ways. For if you choose self-sacrifice, giving up your lives for my glory, you will discover true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will lose what you try to keep.” Luke 9:23-24 (TPT)
What??! Is Jesus saying we live by dying? Is He saying we are born into this world to ultimately give up our lives for Him and His ways?
Yes. That is exactly what He is saying! To skim over this in scripture is one thing, but to slow down and read it, understand it, and put it into practice is totally another thing altogether. This word of Jesus is hard to receive, but it is truth! As a matter of fact, Jesus says in these verses the pathway of self-sacrifice will lead us to discover TRUE life. And Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life!” John 14:16 (NKJV)
This is hard to relate to. Especially in a world where we see it all, have it all, go anywhere we want, and do whatever we want. It’s hard to relate when the natural mindset is to put ourselves first, do whatever makes us happy, and be in charge of our own thoughts and actions, always putting Him second.
But those with a Kingdom mindset walk the pathway of self-sacrifice for His sake. The only way to develop this mindset is to die daily to our own self will, and ask Him to come and fill up the places in us that we have laid down, or surrendered to Him. Make a deliberate choice to surrender to His ways; to embrace His cross as your own. Your cross won’t look like His or anyone else’s, but it will lead you down the path of surrender to Him.
Surrender means ‘to yield something to the possession or power of another; to give up, abandon, or relinquish in favor of another.’ When we surrender to Him, we are making a choice to put Him first. This choice will position us to receive true life; life in a way we can’t obtain in any other way. We will never experience the fullness of true life (which is HIM) until we take that step of surrender.
When you practice a kingdom mindset of surrender, opportunities will present themselves that would otherwise never be available. God will open doors of opportunity to those who choose to lay down their lives for His! This is a spiritual principle. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, and we are commissioned to do the same; we can only do it successfully though, if we are walking in the authority of surrender to Jesus.
The spiritual world knows those who walk in true authority. An example of this is in Acts 19:1 when an evil spirit said to them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
Surrender to Jesus starts with a yielded heart and a renewed mind. A renewed mind will always broker the kingdom. It acts as an intermediary, or a go-between. It brings the reality of heaven to earth, and displays the authority of the Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.
PRAY… Lord we repent that we have not fully surrendered our lives to you. Please forgive us for being half-hearted. We admit that we have strongholds in our lives that keep us from surrendering to you completely. We ask that you take care of those Lord, as we yield to you. We repent that we have allowed our minds to be a playground for the enemy, and not be used as an instrument of righteousness for the Kingdom. Help us Lord! You said it is God Himself who works in us to both will and do your good pleasure. We ask you to do it in us Lord in the mighty name of Jesus. Thank you!
DECREE…We decree from this day forward, our mind will be used for Kingdom purposes. We decree we will have the mind of Christ, and we will live and operate out of a Kingdom mindset. We decree Lord that you are filling our mind with the things of heaven, and we will operate in total surrender to you, out of a spirit of wisdom and understanding. Hallelujah!
