Our study on 'Kingdom Identity' this month has a very important key that is sometimes overlooked in just the 'busyness' of living in this fast-paced world! Jesus spoke about it in the parables of Matthew 13.
Just the fact that He spoke to his disciples in parables illustrates this deeper truth. That is, the precious knowledge and understanding of God will not be found by the casual seeker. His treasure is saved for those who will search it out. As He taught His disciples, He deliberately spoke in parables so they would seek Him further about the meaning. There was a lesson He was teaching them, and us, about the Kingdom. Even though they were His disciples, His followers, there was a deeper truth they needed to learn.
He prefaced His teachings saying "The kingdom of heaven is like..." and within each parable, there was a hidden truth for His followers who were determined to know Him more. Have you ever read a scripture and thought "that doesn't make a bit of sense to me!" I have many times, but I am learning that the truths of the kingdom are sometimes hidden 'within plain sight'...I just haven't taken the time to search them out!
A treasure is regarded as precious and it should be cherished. It's something you hold dear and causes you to value above other things. In Matthew 13:44, Jesus said, "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hid in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."
A truth we sometimes overlook about our kingdom identity is this...we are chosen to be one of the ones that seek the hidden treasure and when we find it, it means more to us than anything else. Kingdom people will go after it and apply it in their everyday lives! It will become a part of who they are!
Have you ever played 'hide and go seek' with one of your small children? It's a good illustration! Think about how precious your kids are. You seek until you find them. And when you find them, you wrap your arms around them and hang on tight!
In closing, the question remains...are you willing to search for the deeper meaning of the things of God? With Him, there is always more. We cannot ever reach the place where we feel we have all the answers, because we don't. Our kingdom identity requires we become as little children. "He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said, 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'" (Matthew 18:2-4 NIV)
Prayer and Declaration: Father, thank you that the things you consider precious are hidden from the casual seeker. Lord, give us the wisdom and understanding to seek them out and hold them as dear in our lives. Father, we declare Holy Spirit is giving us the understanding to see Jesus and His truths as they really are, and to know our true identity in the kingdom. We declare we will take those deeper truths and apply them to our lives, so we may bring joy to your heart, and be a reflection of Your love. In Jesus name, amen and amen!
