Song of Solomon 7:5-6

(5) Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel, and the hair of your head is like purple; a king is held in its tresses. (6) How fair and how pleasant you are, O love, with your delights!

The brides-to-be are speaking in this passage, acknowledging the bride's head, or her 'thought life' that is full of wisdom and purity. They liken it to Mount Carmel, which is the place where Elijah challenged the 450 prophets of Baal. These false prophets boldly defied the deity of God, and Elijah proved them wrong. This is a fascinating account in I Kings 18 and worth reading! The point is, the bride's thought life is strong and full of excellence; she knows her God and His character, and nothing can sway her from following after Him.

Her hair, likened to the color purple, is a symbol of authority and royalty. Her head speaks of her covering and submission to the Bridegroom. The brides-to-be see how the King is captured by her love for Him. They see her resolute will to follow Him and obey regardless of the cost. The love she has for Him not only captures His heart, but it causes the brides-to-be to admire and want to emulate this bride.

Now the Bridegroom speaks and calls her His love and lets her know that He delights in her. In the beginning of the Song, she was delighting in His fruit, and now He delights in the fruit that flows from her heart; the fruit of love and obedience.

There is a progression of the true bride of Christ that is born from a heart of real love. First and foremost, love for Him; and then love for others. Are you experiencing this kind of progressive love?
