Song of Solomon 6:8-9

(8) There are sixty queens and eighty concubines, and virgins without number. (9) My dove, my perfect one, is the only one, the only one of her mother, the favorite of the one who bore her. The daughters saw her and called her blessed, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.

Have you ever heard the term 'rank and file'? In verse 8 of Song of Solomon, the queens, concubines and virgins, which are all a 'rank' within the palace of Solomon's day, are in essence a reference to rank in the army of God. The numbers sixty, eighty, and 'without number', imply there are not as many in a higher rank as there are in a lower rank. It's the same in a physical army. There are generals, colonels, majors, captains, lieutenants, sergeants and privates. They are ALL a part. Within God's army we are all a part, but there are also varying degrees of rank. No one is unimportant or not needed. Each has a job to do and something valuable to give, but just like the physical army, there is divine order in God's army.

There is a divine order in His church as well. Within this order is a very important truth, which is found in Matthew 22:37-38 "thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself."

The mature bride, which the bridegroom King refers to in verse 9 as His dove and perfect one, has learned how to live life in the center of these commandments. She has made a choice, and though still not perfect, is found to be graced with the favor of God and man (the church). There is grace and favor resting upon her. Favor with those in the church, and favor with all the family of God. They express their approval and admiration of her, because they see in her Christ, the hope of glory. To live life loving God with all your heart, and your neighbor as yourself, is to live a life graced by God.
