Song of Solomon 4:16

16) Awake, O north wind, and come, O south! Blow upon my garden, that its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come to His garden and eat its pleasant fruits.

Today's verse marks the middle of the book of Song of Solomon. More importantly, it marks the turning point of the bride's understanding of her call and God's grace upon her life. It marks her total trust and yielding to the One who loves her unconditionally. There is a transition that has taken place in her inner life and heart that will set her on course for the rest of her life.

To awake means to become alive, aware, attentive and watchful. She is speaking from her 'spirit man', that heart place deep within her being. It is actually a declaration that, although the north winds of adversity may blow on her circumstances, and even when the south winds of blessing touches her life, she will live for Him alone. In whatever situation she finds herself, she will be like Paul in Phil 4:12. Her spiritual prosperity will hinge only upon her inner heart condition, and not her external circumstances.

The bride is declaring these winds will blow upon her garden and its spices (the fragrance of her inner life) will flow out. She understands that both winds are of equal value. Even though winds of adversity are not pleasant, they cause a spiritual grace to be released in us that will further our development in Him.

The turning point in her life comes as she makes this declaration. She realizes that her garden is actually HIS garden, and even though the fragrance will bless and cause others to seek Him more, the garden is actually for His enjoyment first and foremost. What she has viewed as her inheritance in Him for the first 4 chapters of the song has now shifted; it is no longer her inheritance, but His. It's all about His inheritance. She is now focused on living to be His inheritance! Ephesians 1:18 "...the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe..."

How incredible to think that WE are the inheritance of the great King of Kings, the bridegroom King Jesus. It is a mystery to me that He saved us, called us, ordained us, and then equipped us in every way. We cannot lose! We are trophies of His grace! Selah...
