Song of Solomon 2:1-2

October 6, 2016

(1) I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. (2) Like a lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

Beginning in verse one of chapter two, the bride makes a statement that comes from the revelation of what Holy Spirit has just shown her. She is a choice rose, and a pure lily among the multitudes. Have you ever meditated on the fact that this is who you are? You are the inheritance that the Father has promised to His Son. The Father is not giving His Son just any old inheritance, but it is very valuable and precious. Outside of the Holy Trinity, there is nothing that Jesus wants, nothing that can satisfy His heart, except His promised bride. That's YOU. When you come to the realization that Jesus loves and longs for you, even in your weakness, that becomes a powerful affirmation in your spirit. But then there's more. There is always more.

There comes a time when this affirmation becomes a living reality in your life, and when it does, it begins to shape and mold your identity. "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." (John 8:32) Recognizing and living in the fullness of who you are meant to be ... this is freedom in the truest sense. This is the place where you can move out with Him, and become a co-heir in the deepest sense, operating in His love, His wisdom and His authority; an extension of Him in every way.

In verse one, the bride has just gotten a glimpse of the reality of who she really is, and she proclaims it. In verse two, the Lord affirms her proclamation by comparing the purity of her heart to the extreme sin (thorns) of the world. He also calls her a lily, and confirms what Holy Spirit has just revealed to her; and then He calls her His love. Even though she is still in the early stages of maturity, when He looks at her, He sees the fullness of who she will become.

It is the same with us. In all our different levels of maturity, when the Lord looks at us, He sees us in the fullness and maturity of who we will become by His grace. It is a great mystery. " ...to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:19
